Community Schools Fellowship

Elmahaba is hiring.

Elmahaba Center, Workers Dignity, and Safer Schools Nashville are partnering with MNEA, SEIU, and USW to survey students, families, staff, and nearby community members about what they love and what they would like to see change for their schools and their communities at four high schools: Antioch High School, Glencliff High School, Whites Creek High School, and Maplewood High School.  

We are recruiting three (3) institute fellows to lead the efforts to survey students, families, and community members.

Stipend: $4000

Pre-requisites:

  • Bilingual in Spanish or Arabic and English

  • Be at least 18 years of age

  • Committed to community empowerment and the principals of Workers Dignity, Elmahaba Center, and Safer Schools Nashville

  • Connection or experience with the communities surrounding the four target high schools 

  • Must commit to completing all summer training

Duties:

  • Coordinate multiple multi-lingual survey methods for students, families, and communities including:

    • Electronic and paper surveys

    • Focus groups

    • Town halls 

    • One-on-one conversations

  • Ensure survey responses are uploaded to central database

  • Track completion of surveys and follow-up when necessary

  • Work as a team with school-based teams to support volunteers in surveying students/parents/community members

  • Assist with at least 2 volunteer trainings 

  • Attend regular meetings/check-ins

The successful candidate will:

  • Be bi-lingual in Spanish or Arabic/English 

  • Be well-respected as a trusted community member/ parent of MNPS students

  • Be able to maintain strict confidentiality of those surveyed

  • Be comfortable with interacting with diverse communities

  • Work well with a team to complete goals

  • Be willing to meet with individuals for one-on-one conversations as well as facilitate focus group discussions

  • Have strong interpersonal communication and active listening skills 

  • Self-motivated (flexible schedule)
